ChimYen was founded in Hanoi in December 2010. Its founder, Nguyen Hong Trang (Yuki Nguyen), is a native of Trang An, born and raised in Hanoi. She attained an Art and Design diploma from Broxtowe College, Nottingham, and majored in Fashion Design at the University of Westminster, London (United Kingdom).

The name ChimYen—a distinctly Vietnamese name for a deeply rooted Vietnamese brand—draws inspiration from the bird known as a symbol of blissful happiness and enduring, steadfast relationships. The petite swallow gracefully follows the flock while freely soaring through the sky, much like many Vietnamese women who, despite their petite figures, are capable of balancing caring for their families with personal growth and the expression of their unique charisma and talents.
